Music Fun Week of Dec. 11-18, 2013

UPDATES (since Wednesday) in RED (scroll down)
Are you enjoying the COLD??  Next Tuesday is the FULL COLD MOON, but hoping it will warm up before then.  Another choral concert for me, with the entire Marin Symphony for our 1st ever Holiday Pops Concert, on Tuesday December 17.  It’s a JOY to SING as well as dance …
Yesterday’s view outside a High School friend’s home, Watchung NJ … ♫♪♪

Something else to share that has nothing to do with the Holidays … Remember LAURA NYRO?  Eli and the Thirteenth Confession?  Laura wrote many top hits for The 5th Dimension, Three Dog Night, Blood Sweat and Tears, Barbra Streisand among others, and was one of my favorite artists of the late 60s, early 70s.

A fellow singer brought her adorable 11-month old baby Eli to our concert on Sunday (not a peep from him!) and I immediately broke into song, “Eli’s Comin’”.  Here’s a clip for you to remember it, or to learn more about Laura Nyro: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iX5AanHQS1g

And if you’re interested, here’s the entire album, Eli and the Thirteenth Confession:

Here’s what I forgot to paste in on Wednesday, kudos for last week (!!):
What happened last week?
Our Marin Symphony Chamber Chorus Candelight Concerts on Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon!  A real Joy in my life to participate … and thanks to my friends who came and enjoyed along with us!
Friday evening and the RAIN … I had a concert rehearsal at St. Rafael’s, so on the way home stopped at Sunnbolt’s 1st Friday Jam.  Arrived in time for S’Cream —the Clapton/ Winwood tribute headed by hosts Beth and Knut—and some Birthday cheer for Knut.  Also Jamalicious with Allen Biggs & Bob Smith kept me on my dancin’ feet.  Hmmm … I had gone 6 days without live music—how’d that happen?
Saturday evening after my concert dropped by Hopmonk for Johnny Vegas & The High Rollers for their holiday show – plenty of great dance party music to keep Carlos & I happy.  Didn’t realize Johnny is a local boy, and his peeps came out in force.
The Sunday Holiday Candelight Concert was followed by a wonderful party in Strawberry.  Many thanks to our gracious hosts Noralee and Bob!

Tonight (Wed.) I’d love to get to the Big Band Dance in Corte Madera … if I finish up with business.
Thursday Fairfax beckons:  Eddie Neon at 19 Broadway, and a host of stellar performers at Sleeping Lady—including Lynn Asher & Danny Click.
Friday the 13th looking forward to Cathey Cotton and the Atomic Beat Society at George’s for some funky soul—Go! Cathey! Go!  If not for that gig, Carlos & I would be at Elks for Go! Kat! Go!  Maybe we can do both??
Saturday we have a dinner at our Clubhouse, then another dinner party at a friend’s in San Rafael—a once-a-year gathering that brings folks together from all over the Bay Area.  If we manage to leave before midnight, we’ll stop at Hopmonk for some Sorentinos.
More rehearsals, Sunday and Monday evenings, for my Marin Symphony Holiday Pops Concert at the Civic Center, with the full Symphony Orchestra – on Tuesday the 17th.  This is a first for the Symphony, hope you can attend.  (See Tuesday listing.)

Thanks to the venues and all the amazing musicians, and may you have a Joyous Holiday Season! :-) ♫♪

Music Fun Week of Dec. 4

UPDATES (since Wednesday) in RED (scroll down)
May you be HAPPY inside and out.  I’m happy to be walking the planet with you.

Very much looking forward to singing this weekend with the Marin Symphony Chamber Chorus, Dec. 7 & 8.  Hope to see some of you there ... I can still get advanced tickets ($25) for you if you let me know by Friday afternoon.

What a GREAT PARTY Wednesday night at Peri's, ushering in Thanksgiving!! Thanks, Soul SatellitesFrank Bohan, Ted O’Connell, Lloyd Meadows, Timm Walker, Dave Burns—and Bonnie Hayes! Wow, great to have you back, if just for a short stay; and Danny Click, Don Bassey, Eric Schramm, and all the other great musicians who jumped up onstage and added a little somethin’ else!! ♫♪♪♫♪
Thanksgiving Day I fit in a visit and long walk with Laura and Tino, then thanked Carlos for his home-cooked prime rib dinner!
Last week’s rainfall presented me with a small leak in my sunroom, so on Friday after our Community Pub night, Carlos & I headed to Home Depot for supplies.  After that a little de-compression, and by the time we headed out it was past 10:30 ... so we moseyed up to Hopmonk for Yeah Sure Whatever – and they were finished when we arrived before 11pm!  Guess I was supposed to rest up for our roof work on Saturday!
But Saturday night was a different story.  The benefit for Hummingbird Café in Fairfax was over-the-top!  19 Broadway presented us with act after amazing act of local live music.  We got there in time for a bit of Lumanation with Bobby G, then Tommy Odetto (who must be destined for some big things), then Cathleen “Sweetie Pie” Riddley and Burnsy’s Sugar Shack, then Sol Doc and The Optimystics!  Talk about magical energy!  Treat after musical treat – and I got my 3 hours of dancing in for the night! Sleeping Lady was also in on the Benefit, but was packed to capacity for the night’s festivities.  Thanks to the venues and all the amazing musicians, and the good vibe-crowd--and best of luck to Michelle and Jose and the Hummingbird Cafe! :-)

Back at Sweetwater on Sunday (again) for another free Moonalice show.  Thanks for the love, Roger, John, Pete and Barry!

19 Broadway after the show, photo by a friendly stranger ♫♪

The week to come:  Friday evening I’ll be rehearsing for my Sat. & Sun Marin Symphony Chamber Chorus Candlelight Concerts, and from there will possibly stop at Sunnbolt, and/or Shed Sessions at the Hopmonk.  Would love to be there for your party, Danny Click—but the space/time continuum is a challenge!
Saturday evening is my concert, and after that will most likely head to Hopmonk for Johnny Vegas and the High Rollers.  James Moseley Band is at Seahorse, but again--the time travel thing is a factor …  There’s Danny Click again at Sleeping Lady, and Go! Kat! Go! (a group I'd like to check out) in the Event Room “The Other Side” at Ghiringhelli’s as well.
Sunday is our 2nd performance of the Holiday Candlelight Concert at St. Rafael’s, and after that a party to finish up the weekend.  Yay!

Peace, Love -- and hope you get to check out some of the musical offerings for the week! ♫♪
