Music Fun Week of Jan. 29-FEB. 5, 2014

Where has January gone!?  Soon it's gonna rain, I can feel it ... ♪♪  But in case in doesn't come soon, hope you are doing your best to conserve WATER--a very precious resource!

My memento from the Hoedown at Unity in Marin, Friday night! ♫♪♪

Thanks for the past week go to Carolyn & Rusty Gauthier and D’Bunchovus at the Hoedown at Unity in Marin on Friday night.  Everyone slipped into character, got silly, and danced away the evening.  We intended to stop at Hopmonk on the way home for Pop Rocks—but at least one of us was kinda’ tired.  I heard from several of you who were there that the place really rocked.  Hopmonk seems to be making out well booking party dance bands … works for me.
On Saturday after our wine tasting party we got our wild gypsy on with Beso Negro, again at Hopmonk.  Sure is nice to have someplace local to dance!

Coming up:  definitely ZYDECO FLAMES at Hopmonk Friday night.  And hey, they’re not just for zydeco lovers—also putting out funk, soul & blues—plenty to get you on your feet to express yourself!  Other great music available as well—like Lumanation at Seahorse, Danny Click at Sleeping Lady, Olive & the DMs at PYC – check it out below.
On Saturday it’s quite likely Carlos & I’ll be back again at Hopmonk for Miracle Mule—another fun and rowdy musical treat.  But if we get out of town, there’s El Radio Fantastique with Junk Parlor at 19 Broadway, Cole Tate Band at Peri’s, Key Lime Pie (early show) & Ray Obiedo with Pete Escovedo at Seahorse—and a lot more right here in Marvelous Marin!
Sunday there are plenty of Super Bowl parties all over the place, and not a lot of dancing opportunities … looks like Fairfax may be the place to be if you’ve got to dance.

Music Fun Week of Jan. 22-29, 2014

One never knows who or what one will encounter in the neighborhood.

Great Blue Heron at Unity in Marin
He knows Patience …

I may not be able to stand as composed as this Beautiful Bird, but I might try it in another lifetime!  Meanwhile …"bring it on"!
Amazing, stupendous treats: Bonnie Hayes did not disappoint!  We sure miss her, and she misses us!  Lettin’ our hair down Sunday night at Sweetwater with Ms. Bonnie, percussionist Vicki, drummer brother Kevin, Eric Schramm, Darryll Anders, Tim O’Connell, Danny Click – and we came late!  Did you sit in, Frank Bohan? If we missed you, see you at Hopmonk on the 31st with the Zydeco Flames.
Could have been the highlight of the week on Sunday night, but Carlos & I led up to it with Friday at Hopmonk and Rock Candy.  They have a ton of fans, are pretty inconsistent musically—but do make for some amusing moments—and dance we did.  Sorry we missed the party at Presidio Y.C. with Doc Kraft.
Saturday we began at Trek Winery for Olive and the Dirty Martinis—a fundraiser for downtown Novato Theater—and a happy dancing crowd.  We rode on over to Hopmonk after that and danced to the U2 Tribute band Zoo Station.  Crazy!
This Tuesday (last) at the fabulous Marin Symphony with their tribute to Martin Luther King Jr.  Wonderful narration from friend Noah Griffin, and a stunning performance of Copland’s 3rd Symphony.  Written around 1946, but so modern, and to my ear very broadway-esque.  I’ve begun choral rehearsals for our performances with the Symphony in April – Carmina Burana, and Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms.  Exciting!

On tap: we may get to the Hoedown at Unity in Marin on Friday night, with Carolyn & Rusty Gauthier & D’Bunchovus.  There’s another dance party band at Hopmonk that night, so we may swing by for Pop Rocks.  Also Friday is Rusty Evans at Elks Club, and what may be your last chance to see Return to the Forbidden Planet (if it’s not sold out)!
On Saturday we’re going to a wine tasting party in Novato, and after that I reckon we’ll stop by Hopmonk for Beso Negro and some wild gypsy swing.  There’s also Pulsators at Fenix, Lonestar Retrobates at Rancho, and so much more!

Sunday we may take the drive to Fairfax for Steve Abramson & Friends, and The Great American Robber Barons at 19 Broadway

Worth repeating: Hope you get out and move it … And if you can’t, have fun inside your head! ♫♪♫♪
