Music Fun Week of Jan. 29, 2013

UPDATES in RED
I’m gonna roll in my riches and fly with the angels, because heaven is right here, right now! … another gem from Unity, via Michael L.

[Do they have colds in heaven?  I’ve been fighting this thing on & off for a couple of months. But I know I’m in heaven, so I guess it happens.]

Did you get your howlin’ on with that bright beautiful Full Wolf Moon?
Despite what it might sound like from this blog, I do NOT go out every night of the week.  Thus I miss a lot of performances I would like to see.  What I want to do is give shout-outs to all the amazing musicians I DO get to appreciate.
This week we unexpectedly got over to Dennis Haneda’s Open Mic at Hopmonk Novato once again. Our pal vocalist Debra Clawson was one of the highlights! This is getting to be a pleasant habit! We tried to livestream the Fenix Band’s blues night, but ran into a snafu—hopefully it will be up & running soon. The FENIX has a great lineup of shows—check it out below.
It was one of those weekends where we just HAD to get to more than one venue a night. On Friday we heard our friends Johnny Z and TRENZ, playing to a very lively and appreciative crowd at the Presidio Yacht Club, then made it to Hopmonk Novato for the last set of Pepperland—late Beatles stuff, fantastic energy!  Hopmonk is really turning into a dancers’ scene.
On Saturday we happily got to Peri’s in Fairfax for the phenomenal Zydeco Flames: Frank, Lloyd, Bruce, Timm and William always keep it going in high gear.  It was fun to be in a non-zydeco venue, for all the folks who like to do their own thing (not strictly zydeco dancing—but there was plenty of that going on too, on their postage-stamp dance floor).  Lloyd, Frank & Timm will be back at Peri’s on Friday to mix it up with Ted O’Connell, Dave Burns, and Bonnie Hayes—configured as the Soul Satellites—sure to please.
Back to last Saturday, hard to pull away from the Flames, but eager to hear the Sorentinos at Hopmonk—and we made it for their last half-hour—enough to get a feel for this great party dance band (with a nice write-up in last week’s Pacific Sun).

This coming week, another abundance of riches, and multiple dance band dilemma:
For Friday we’ve got the Soul Satellites at Peri’s, Mighty Groove & Undercover at the Seahorse, Pop Fiction at George’s, and Sunnbolt Jam is happening as well!
On Saturday there’s Cathey Cotton & Elliott’s Evil Plan for a sure-fire hot show at Peri’s, Stephanie Teel at George’s – and what about Danny Click, Roy Rogers, Petty Theft, Vinyl, Doc Kraft, The 7th Sons, the Flames at Monroe, a great lineup at FENIX, and so much more!?!  Check it out below, then get out there and enjoy yourselves! ♫♪♫♪

Friend Sabina is looking for a roommate at her beautiful home in Marin Lagoon, San Rafael. See her Craigslist ad:  http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/roo/3576244814.html

Music Fun Week of Jan. 22, 2013

We can choose how we react to situations, to free ourselves from negativity, to forgive, to see things work out for the highest good of all concerned.  Here’s hoping!  … rephrased from a Unity talk.

This past week was another blessing!  We finally made it to one of Dennis Haneda’s Open Mics at Hopmonk Novato, and were pleasantly surprised at the display of talent—and plenty of blues to keep us on our feet.  We were back at Hopmonk on Fri. night for Beso Negro, another first listen for us—plenty of freestyle fun, a full dance floor enjoying their style of Gypsy swing.
On Friday we preceded our dancing with Narada Michael Walden’s entertaining talk to a packed house at Book Passage, to promote his book Whitney Houston: The Voice, The Music, The Inspiration.— and with some great live music.
Saturday at the Rancho for The Tickets Band—the place was packed, a birthday party coincided—so I’m very happy that The Tickets have a whole new set of fans!  On Sunday we were invited to a pre-opening dinner at the Fenix Music & Supper Club, treated to an exceptional dining experience, with the Fenix Band – Fernando Aragon, Larry Vann, Roscoe Gallo, Janice Maxie, and Kyle Hixon-- adding to a very classy act all around—the food, the music, the ambiance.  The dining room is actually a state-of-the-art recording studio!  Here’s wishing them much success!

This week:  George’s Nightclub is back in the swing, with 2 big weekend shows:  Wonderbread 5, and Eric Martin of Mr. Big!  And down the street, the Fenix Music & Supper Club opens its doors with a Wednesday Blues Show, and Thursday Jazz!  We’re so delighted to have Hopmonk in our neighborhood, with ongoing outstanding music.  This week is a tough call … I want to hear my friends Johnny Z and TRENZ at the PYC; but also hoped to check out Pepperland at Hopmonk; and of course Wonderbread 5 is at George’s!  On Saturday the Zydeco Flames are at Peri’s in Fairfax! And with the great press The Sorentinos received this week in the Pacific Sun, guess I have to make my way over to Hopmonk as well!  …and take a look at all the other amazing choices right here in our little county!  I’m missing the Blues Jam at Hopmonk tonight, as well as the Marin Symphony—darn it, but I can’t be everywhere.  Still, counting all those blessings!

Please take a look at all the listings and details that follow♫♪♫♪
