Music Fun Week of June 25

UPDATES (since Tuesday) in RED
Birthday Wonder

A thousand thanks for all the beautiful birthday greetings!
There’s always room for a first.  This was the first time in 42 years of living in California that it rained on JUNE 24—my Birthday!  I who love to see the sun shine, who can depend on cloud-clearing to feel myself smile, actually had a beautiful birthday Monday, in spite of the weather!  Carlos took the day off, then let me go to have lunch with Trish—who sometimes can be hard to catch. I spent a delightful hour-and-a-half in Safeway, chatting with everyone in sight after getting my free very caffeinated Starbucks birthday drink.  Correctly guessed the age of a baby in aisle 4 (10 months), and it turned out that mom Ananda and I shared our birthday—she turning 30!  Met an English grammy and her 4-1/2 year old grandson Fentin, who though American also has an English accent.  Very cute!  And so on and so on … having fun in mundane places!  And a gorgeous salmon dinner prepared by Chef Carlos!  Mmmmm.

Had another delicious weekend of musical treats:  Fri. night at Northgate with the absolutely awesome Zydeco Flames, who mention me in their latest CD Fire Dance!!  And Saturday night at PYC, where the inimitable Dan Brown fronted Cheap Therapy.  I have not seen such a crowd at PYC for several years, and with the FULL STRAWBERRY MOON shining down, quite a magical evening!
On Sunday we visited with Donnalei & George Sumner and others at TREK Winery, entertained by Jaime Alvero from Peru.

This week, the James Moseley Band at Sweetwater on Wednesday evening – don’t miss it!
Have not heard Doc Kraft and the Boys for a long time—and I expect them to party hearty at the Seahorse on Fri. nite--we'll be there!  Perhaps check in on the Marinwood Music for the Shook Twins on our way south, or maybe Stung at Creekside if the weather is promising …
Saturday very likely could be Shana Morrison & Caledonia at Hopmonk – there’s also Steve Lucky & the Rhumba Bums out at Rancho.
And on Sunday there’s the Italian Street Painting Festival with a great musical lineup, and The 7th Sons at Magnolia Terrace.

Music Fun Week of June 18, 2013

UPDATES (since Tuesday) in RED

Wowza!

That’s an appropriate expression of delight after the events of this week past.
The Marin Art Festival was superb, with many thanks to friends Erma and Daniel of Murphy Productions for staging such excellent musical acts.  Carlos & I were there to enjoy Stompy Jones and Moonalice on Saturday, and came back Sunday for Lorin Rowan & The Edge, as well as Lumanation with Bobby G—a feast of frolicking fun!

And there was the Fairfax lovefest on Friday at Peri’s—for the fabulous Soul Satellites--Frank, Ted, Lloyd, Tim, Dave--and including Bonnie Hayes—who will be leaving us shortly for a stint as Chair of the Songwriting Dept. at Berklee College of Music in Boston.  We’re gonna miss you, Bonnie!  (And Danny Click sat in for a little extra fun.)
Earlier that evening we couldn’t miss the fabulous Rudy Colombini and the Unauthorized Rolling Stones at Creekside at Tennessee Valley, for the first in their free Friday night summer series.
Thursday San Rafael Farmers Market – chilly and windy for Bahia Son & Pocket Change – but they rocked despite the imperfect weather.
Wednesday we danced to the Ray Simpson Big Band at Corte Madera – you should try this sometime if you haven’t already—a monthly treat.

Heading into my Birthday Week, the Summer Solstice is coming up, along with the Full Strawberry Moon, and there’s plenty of JOY in the air.
Thursday I’d love to hear Jonny Darlin & his pals at PYC… there's also Johnny Steele at Trek, and Danny Click at the Sonoma-Marin Fair.  We’re looking forward to Zydeco Flames at Northgate (Friday), and maybe go north after that for the last of Los Boleros at Pacheco, or Andoni at Rickey's; for you Sausalito folks, there's The 7th Sons at Taste of Rome, and Rockit Science at PYC.  Saturday either Cheap Therapy with Dan Brown at PYC, or more Zydeco Flames at Peri’s,  or Cathey Cotton at 19 Broadway, or the DJ at Hopmonk.  Perhaps the San Anselmo Art Festival on Saturday day and maybe Sunday as well; probably TREK Winery for a mellow Sunday afternoon with George & Donnalei Sumner
Then Monday is my Special Day!  Yay!  Hope it's a special week for you too!

Listen to the Music, and Dance (like nobody's watching)!!
And remember to TIP our wonderful and talented MUSICIANS!  Also please support all the gracious venues that support MUSIC.
