Music Fun Week of Jan. 8-15, 2014

New Year’s Resolutions, anyone?  I resolve to continue what I’m doing because of the rewards:  a sense of community, conviviality, appreciation.
I’ve been producing a music/ dance calendar for 3-1/2 or 4 years, beginning with a list of about 50 friends going back to June 2010 (or maybe March), and gradually increasing as I meet new people each week—so that now I mail directly to about 900 people!  Others hear about it and go directly to the website.  My community service, labor of love … Blessings!

Yesterday was a wonderful Mother/Daughter Day in the City, a continuation of Laura’s Birthday celebration, taking in the Bvlgari exhibit at the de Young (and some David Hockney while we were at it!).  Laura tends to dress to the nines wherever we go, and attracts a lot of attention from museum-goers.  I can easily see her wearing many of the spectacular gems that were on display!  She always did like to play dress-up.
Me & My Gal after the Bulgari exhibit at deYoung

What has transpired on the dance floor?  Friday evening Carlos & I at Sunnbolt First Friday Jam.  Thought we would move on to Elks Club and perhaps Fairfax … but we got into the groove at Sunnbolt and stayed put!  Then on Saturday night we were back at Hopmonk for the Linda Ferro Band for some funk and rock—but we arrived late and they ended early and so I had less than an hour of dancing!

This week is full of promise:  Wednesday night at the Big Band Dance in Corte Madera; Friday night at Hopmonk for Pop Fiction and plenty of dancefloor action.  There’s also Danny Click at the Sleeping Lady (both Fri. & Sat.); Eddie Neon at Seahorse; Pocket Change at Peri’s.  Saturday I hope to be at Fenix for ZYDECO FLAMES, and of course they will have an open dance floor for the zydeco gang!  Sunday back at Fenix for a favorite North Bay Band:  The BluesBurners.  Hope you can be there!

As I’ve said: Hope you get out and move it … And if you can’t, have fun inside your head! ♫♪♫♪

Music Fun Week of Jan. 1-8, 2014

UPDATES (since Thursday) in RED (scroll down)
The HOLIDAYS are over?  What?  LIFE is a holiday, Friends!  Each day you get up and take a breath is a chance to experience JOY, to be the best you can be … No great Wisdom here, it’s only common sense for the Age of Aquarius and a wish to share it with you … We’re all Mirrors – and what you see is what you get!  Spin that around in your heads (and on the dance floor if you can).
Wishing you all Good Energy, Health & Abundance in this New Year!

with Carlos--and Lita & photobomber Bob, 2 of our Favorite Hopmonk staff! ♫♪♪

The Season has been a whirl of Parties, Rehearsals, Concert Singing, more Parties, and not as much Dancing as I am used to!
I cannot possibly make it to all the gigs I’d like … but I do think it important to sing praises to all the Musicians who make our Endorphins take us to Happy Places!
It’s already been a couple of weeks since Carlos & I were at Hopmonk for Lauren Murphy and Joanne Rand, a couple of singer/songwriters who transported me back to a Philadelphia coffeehouse in the late 60s, or Stinson Beach in the 70s … but not a lot of dancing!  Then Beso Negro at Seahorse (sorry to have missed Key Lime Pie!) for full-out let-it-go dancing in manic gypsy style!
A revelation last Friday night at HopmonkRandom Rab, Beli3ver, Zack Darling – a Burning Man scene of mashup dub, ambient downtempo, melodic downtempo – and a mass of 25-35 year olds who writhed and grooved and I loved it!  Exposure to something new, good for me!
On Saturday Carlos & I went down to the Presidio Yacht Club for Doc Kraft Dance Band and re-connected with many of his fans, our friends and party-goers.  Hated to miss James Moseley at Fenix and Soul Satellites at Peri’s – another night when we’re pulled in 3 or more directions …

New Year’s Eve at our Clubhouse with friend Charles as DJ and everyone on the dance floor; then to Hopmonk for Notorious and more non-stop dancing with Special Friends to ring in the New Year.

Whazzup this week??:  Friday could be Sunnbolt or Rockit Science at Elks, or Achilles Wheel at Hopmonk – or Gary Vogenson & Friends at Rancho, or DJ reggae at 19 Broadway … whew!

Saturday we’re lookin’ at Fenix for Kevin Russell, or AZ/DZ at 19 Broadway, or Hopmonk for Linda Ferro ...
We shall see!

GOTTA DANCE! ♫♪♫♪
