Music Fun Week of Nov. 13, 2012

“We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” – George Bernard Shaw
...so get out there and play!

Where’ve I been? And whom do I thank? The past weekend was filled by the awesome Ms. Cathey Cotton and Elliott’s Evil Plan; the Jamie Clark Band had it going on at Max’s; and good ol’ Doc Kraft Dance Band put out their lively best at the PYC
*I had the honor of attending the Sunday evening Red-Ribbon Cutting for the Fenix on 4th St. in San Rafael.   Lots of excitement there, long-anticipated, a very classy venue, from a team headed by the lovely Laura van Galen.  Thanks for the invite, Connie!  Their house-band (including Fernando Aragon, Larry Vann, Michael Warren, Phillip Roscoe Gallo, and Kyle Hixon) will play Blues on Wednesday nights, and they kick it!  Narada Michael Walden sat in for a couple of numbers—wowza!  But as yet there is no dance floor—it’s a beautiful marble floor from the original building, built sometime in the 20s, I think.  They are still working on finishing touches, and I’m hopin’ one of them is a proper dance floor.  Also hoping they bring a renaissance to 4th St., and that their neighbor George’s Nightclub will also thrive!

**There’s also excitement building about HOPMONK TAVERN soon to open in Novato (next Wed. as a matter of fact)!  Had a nice conversation today with gracious owner Dean Biersch, who gave me a tour of the place.  New wood floors—a good omen for us Dancers!  They open with the Courtney Janes—and I’m looking forward to all my favorite local bands being booked very soon!

***Heading to Corte Madera tonite for the Ray Simpson Big Band Dance.  Tomorrow evening (Thursday) at TREK WINERY, please stop by and join us for some excellent wine while entertained by the Herb Marshall Band.  On Friday the intent is to head to The Trident for the Rowan Brothers, and then to PYC for REVOLVER. And on Saturday expect to see us at Sunnbolt for the big party with our friends Dan Brown and Full Steem and The Mighty Groove!  Double wowza! ♫♪
****There’s also the 14th Anniversary Party for Rancho Nicasio (and Danny Click on Sat. nite); the 4th Anniversary at Whipper Snapper; big fun as usual at Sweetwater; cool sounds with your dinner at Panama Hotel & at Rickey’s; free DJ--and Dylan & Lester Chambers at George’s; the Treble Makers, David Nelson Band, Norman Greenbaum, Jamie Clark—and more!  (But I can’t be everywhere…)  Please take a look at all the listings and details that follow♫♪♫♪
