JOHNNIE JEAN
MEMORIAL CELEBRATION
Please see
last week’s post for details (scroll down). ($10 per car parking, bring food & drink,
bring coolers/ ice chests, bring chairs; no dogs, etc.) I’ll
send additional info out before the week is through. Come and join us in celebrating the Life of a Remarkable Being ...
The week in review: Wednesday evening in Mill Valley, first at
the Depot Plaza for the infectious fun of Hot
Club of Marin. Then to Sweetwater for a taste of Greg Johnson & Glass Brick Boulevard. As I commented in Friday’s UPDATE – these guys
are on fire! I had resigned myself to
some sit-down jazz appreciation, but could not sit still for their brand of
jazz funk.
Took a bye on Thursday, then on Friday Carlos
& I went to Hopmonk to check out
Commander Cody – he’s still got
it! Boogie-down fun, plenty of Ray
Charles plus Hot Rod Lincoln stuff – and a floor full of dancers.
Saturday at TREK Winery, we headed over for an early evening with The Chime Travelers, Rick & Jay. These guys have been around the block, and we
had fun with Beatles, Stones, and a few surprises.
Again, the dancers were out having fun.
From there we headed to Hopmonk again, for Freestone
Peaches, a Duane Allman Tribute band from SF and South Bay. AMAZING stuff – this was only their 2nd
gig playing together (previously down in Felton), but they were hot and never
stopped the music, segueing from one bit to another the entire time we were
there. Again, a packed dance floor—people
really let loose.
What’s to come this week for my guy and me? The holiday set me behind a day for this blog,
so won’t make it out tonight … Would be mighty-fine to make it to PYC on Thursday for Eddie Neon’s Blues … On Friday there’s Sunnbolt 1st Friday Jam –
and also the incredible Danny Click
& the Hell Yeahs! at 142 Throck,
recording a Live CD!
Saturday will hopefully find us at Rancho Nicasio for The Tickets Band. There’s
also Factor 11 at TREK Winery. (Did you see the front-page article on Trek
in Monday’s IJ?)
Be sure to check out the regular offerings at Fenix, Hopmonk, Sweetwater, and
the other great venues that offer us music as well.
Sunday we’ll definitely be at Stafford Lake to celebrate the life of Johnnie Jean Daniel—come join us in a tribute for our beloved friend that’s sure to rock the
heavens! Hope to see you there!

yourself some good music and move your
