We all have our burdens, but sometimes a bit of silliness can help us shoulder them a little better. (…I think that’s a paraphrase of something I must have heard at Unity …) Works for me!
Here’s a video of The ROSS SISTERS, 1944, that’s making the rounds again. Singing about Potato Salad, but then … (!) They were about 18, 17, and 15 when this was made. YIKES!

Still having a bit of trouble with this one, won't play through to the end (less than 4 min. total).

James Moseley
Dance Band TONITE (Wed.) at Sweetwater!!
The week in review: it appears I’ve slowed down, because I danced only 3 nights. But most of you have no idea what goes on behind the scenes … Life is ever so busy, it’s hard to believe that I am “retired” – i.e. from the workplace and not making any income (!). There is ongoing involvement with my dear brother Jay in Pennsylvania – and I am happy to be able to help him with his struggles – but it does eat up the hours. And so does MUSIC -- praise heaven!
On that note, with a twinge of sorrow contemplating
“death”, and memories of Johnnie Jean bubbling up – I have to report that the
Memorial for Ken Khristian at 19 Broadway last Wednesday was
remarkable, bringing together folks from around the Bay Area. It’s a tribute to see how so many were
touched by Ken’s presence – for me it was with The Unauthorized Rolling Stones.
And of course Rudy Columbini
was there, with the rest of the band Mark
Banning, Kenny Crampton, Eddie Berman and Mike Davis. And The Other Stones’ Johnny Moroko—a real Mick ringer!
And Alicia and Victor coming
in from Las Vegas, and the Ken Khristian
Band … house on fire!
Carlos & I meant to go out on Thursday, at
least to Trek Winery to hear some
mellow music from a Joni Mitchell tribute artist, but we didn’t make it. On Friday we meant to go to Doc Kraft or to Trek or to
Fairfax for some music – but we didn’t go!
So on Saturday night all guns were fired, and we drove down to Presidio Yacht Club for The Tickets Band – what was to be their
final performance for 2013 (but they’ll be at Mill Valley Tennis Club on Saturday)
– and the joint was jumpin’ for possibly one of their best shows ever. Lots o’ Love to Debra, Will, Jeff, Mike &
Kelly—as well as Dave & Randy joining in on blues harp & guitar.
Sunday was a Zydeco party for me, a marriage
celebration for friends who tied the knot in Louisiana—Cajun/Zydeco style! Lots of happy feet!
This week most definitely pumped up for the
Wednesday James Moseley Band Dance Party
at Sweetwater! Yes, it’s a school night, but it’ll be “over”
by 11 … Of course, that means we won’t get
to the Ray Simpson Big Band Dance at
Corte Madera Rec; nor will we be attendees at Korty’s Hump Jam at 19
Broadway—that may well be another tradition.
Thursday I’m thinkin’ it would be swell to hear The 7th Sons for their debut
at Fenix …
Friday there’s The
Femmes Fatales (Debra Clawson, Lauralee Brown, Connie Ducey & Joan Getz) for
something different, at Mary’s Futons. Or there’s Orgone at Hopmonk for
some funk and R&B. And further afield, Danny Click & The Hell Yeahs! are at the Empress in Vallejo. One of
these days Carlos & I will make that trip.
Also the Stage Dor production of The Last Unicorn—if you’d like to watch
instead of get on the dance floor yourself!
Saturday there’s a party,
and after that perhaps REVOLVER at PYC, or if we’re feeling daring Winstrong at Hopmonk, or maybe Cole Tate at Peri’s. And there's lots of great music happening now at 19 Broadway, thanks to Jonathan Korty!
I have a rehearsal for
one of my upcoming Marin Symphony Chorus
performances on Sunday afternoon—I’ll let you know more about those concerts
soon. After my rehearsal, hope to make it to the West End Village Celebration by 4:30 or so to catch some Beso Negro & Wonderbread 5! And if the tank is full, would be fun to
drive out to Rancho Nicasio for Foxes in the Henhouse—I hear they’re
quite good.
Peace, Love and scroll down for all the musical offerings of the week! ♫♪
